Freeport Families Preparing for Hurricane Season?
6/6/2023 (Permalink)
We are leaders in storm damage restoration services in Walton County.
It’s that time again! The Atlantic Hurricane season begins on June 1 and ends on November 30. Our local Destin, Seaside, and Freeport teams respond to storm damage emergencies every hurricane season and offer these some tips for preparing for hurricane season from Senator Marco Rubio’s website:
- Make sure you know where your home’s safe room is located. Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) website details what a safe room should look like.
- Keep your automobile fully fueled; if electric power is cut off, gas stations may not be able to operate pumps for several days.
- Be prepared to survive on your own for at least 72 hours. Assemble a disaster kit with a battery-powered radio, flashlights, extra batteries, a first-aid kit, blankets, clothing, food, water, and prescription medications, and needed medical supplies. The Florida Division of Emergency Management provides a good list of items to have ready. Be sure to have enough food and water for your pets.
- Know how to shut off utilities. Know how your water, heating, and air-conditioning systems work and if you have natural gas appliances, where pilot lights are located. If you have any questions, contact your local utility company.
- Gather your personal documents - insurance policy information, emergency contact information, and any other vital documents – and have them somewhere they can be easily located and ready to take with you should you have to evacuate your home.

Point Washington Home Flooded by Broken Pipe?
5/30/2023 (Permalink)
We restore water damage 24 hours a day in Walton County.
Unless your home or business in Washington Point has plastic pipes, you may have corrosion issues. PEX pipe (cross-linked polyethylene) is a type of flexible plastic that is replacing copper and galvanized steel pipes. Early versions of PEX pipes have been replaced with new versions that do not deteriorate when exposed to high chlorine levels. Antioxidants are added during the manufacturing process making PEX piping safe for carrying drinking water.
Our local Destin, Seaside, and Freeport teams respond to water damage emergencies throughout the year, and we’ve seen our share of water damage caused by corroded pipes. Many times, pinhole leaks develop, especially in copper pipes that leak inside walls and cause mold growth. If you hear water dripping inside a wall or notice a strong musty odor, you may have hidden water damage from a compromised pipe.
Water Damage Restoration Process
Although every water damage scenario is unique, we perform the following steps for every water damage loss as follows:
Step 1: Emergency Contact
Step 2: Inspection and Damage Assessment
Step 3: Water Removal/Water Extraction
Step 4: Drying and Dehumidification
Step 5: Cleaning and Repair
Step 6: Restoration

Water Damage Disaster in Ponce De Leon Home?
5/23/2023 (Permalink)
We are leaders in water and mold damage restoration services in Okaloosa County.
First comes water damage, then comes mold. Our Destin, Seaside, and Freeport teams have been remediating mold damage in Destin for over twenty years. Part of the mold remediation process involves the safe removal of mold-infested materials and cleaning contents and belongings.
Removing Mold and Mold-Infested Materials
The mold remediation process depends on the amount of mold growth and the types of surfaces on which the mold appears. We use antifungal and antimicrobial treatments to eliminate mold colonies and to help prevent new colonies from forming. It may be necessary to remove and dispose of mold-infested porous materials, like drywall and carpeting, to remediate heavy mold growth.
Cleaning Contents and Belongings
We clean your furniture, decorative items, curtains, clothing, and other restorable items affected by mold. We use a variety of cleaning techniques to clean and disinfect your belongings. We’re also trained to remove odors and deodorization using fogging equipment.

Mold Outbreak in Seaside Caused by Leaking Air Conditioner?
5/16/2023 (Permalink)
We are leaders in mold damage restoration services in Walton County.
Our Destin, Seaside, and Freeport teams are trained and certified to remediate mold damage in homes and commercial businesses in Seaside. Mold is often a symptom of a water damage issue and can spring up after a storm or when there is a water leak or excess moisture in the home or building. Leaking air conditioner units are also a common cause of mold outbreaks.
Here are some helpful tips from the Institute of Business and Home Safety for protecting your home from mold damage caused by heavy rain:
Check wall air conditioners.
Internal Drain
If the air conditioning unit has an internal drain, make sure the pipe size is adequate and water is running and flowing freely in order to handle a high volume of water.
Caulking of Air Conditioning Unit Sleeve: Look for any gaps, cracks, or other damage that indicates improper caulking around the edge of the sleeve to the exterior of the building. This increases vulnerability to water entry.
Orientation: Tilting the air conditioning unit sleeves slightly (two degrees) towards the exterior wall can significantly reduce the water’s entry.
Weather Stripping: Proper weather stripping between the air conditioning unit and the sleeve can reduce the water from entering.

Tips for Making Your Commercial Building Watertight in Destin?
5/9/2023 (Permalink)
We are leaders in water damage restoration services in Okaloosa County.
Our Destin, Seaside, and Freeport teams use powerful water extraction and drying equipment to return water-damaged properties to preloss conditions quickly and efficiently. The Insurance Institute of Business and Home Safety (IBHS) suggests utilizing the following floodproofing techniques to keep your building watertight and prevent water intrusion issues:
If your building is in or near a flood-prone area, consider utilizing these dry floodproofing techniques to make your building watertight and prevent floodwaters from entering.
- Keep a supply of flood-protective materials/products on hand to help divert water away from the building such as water-absorbent barriers or sandbags, or plastic sheeting/tarps for relatively shallow flooding.
- Install watertight shields over all doors and windows at least 3 feet above the BFE or the 500-year flood level, if known. The type of barrier used will depend on the size and type of opening.
- For temporary protection of large sections of a building such as large commercial doors or entranceways that may be exposed to deeper flood waters, water-filled barriers can be interconnected and stacked to divert water away from openings.
- Install moveable flood gates, permanent swing flood doors, or submarine doors (the latter two options provide permanent flood protection for deeper water) if feasible.
- For repetitive deep and prolonged flooding, permanent flood walls that surround the property may be considered.
